Terry Hayes Restoration - Resume

Summary:
Complete historical restorations of buildings involving various materials, styles and conditions. Exterior restorations include pointing brick and stone, reglazing, removal of tar, paint and stains, reproduction of original features such as cornices, stucco, pebbledash, coquina, and roofs. Interior restorations include a variety of materials and features for millwork, paneling, fireplaces, floors, doors and windows. Buildings can be completely disassembled and reassembled to preserve maximum authenticity while restoring features and materials damaged through aging, pestilence, and other injuries. My most valuable attribute is preservation of buildings as a heritage in useful and aesthetically pleasing condition for future generations.

2004

Old Jefferson County High School, 1850, National Registry of Historic Places (NRHP)
Restored windows and doors. Replicated 12 windows, installed 1304 lites (panes) of handmade glass.

Restored windows

2003 Old Governor’s Mansion, 1828, National Registry of Historic Places (NRHP)
Rehung original windows.

Gregory House Museum Torreya State Park, 1849, National Registry of Historic Places (NRHP)
Restored plaster walls and ceilings. Restored wooden windows.

Old Clay County Jail, 1894, National Registry of Historic Places (NRHP)
Restoration and replication of windows. Restoration of outside bars.

Bowling Green Railroad Depot, 1920, Florida Department of Transportation Restoration Project (ISTEA)
Cleaning and repointing brick. Repair concrete headers and sills.

Seminole County Museum, 1920’s, National Registry of Historic Places (NRHP)
Exterior stucco repair. Two-color pebbledash restoration.

Mattox House, 1917
Restored wood windows and doors, plaster walls, ceiling and all wood interior trim.

Lake Wales High School, circa 1919
Lead paint abatement, wood window restoration.

2000

Florida State University, Dodd Hall, 1912, National Registry of Historic Places (NRHP)
Wood and leaded window restoration. Lead paint abatement.

Florida State University, Westcott Hall Exhibits
Restored several oak doors and bronze doors donated by classes circa 1933, 1934, 1936.

MaClay House, 1911, National Registry of Historic Places (NRHP)
Restoration of windows, doors, and shutters incorporated in three-day teaching workshop for State Parks personnel from various locations around the state of Florida.

Suwannee County Courthouse, 1904
Lead base paint abatement and wood window restoration.
Owner: Suwannee County, Live Oak, Florida.

Masonic Building/Plaza Theater, 1912
European style plaster theater repair. Stripped paint from and repaired stairs and theater door. Cleaned leaded glass and copper framing. Restored embossed metal ceiling.

1999

El Centro Espanol de West Tampa, 1912, National Registry of Historic Places (NRHP)
Restored 100 ornate windows with severe termite damage. Replaced colored glass.

Masonic Building/Plaza Theater, 1912
Restored 40 double hung windows. Repaired exterior stucco and cornice. Painted exterior.

Bridges Dental Building, 1912
Restored double hung wooden, sash, windows.

1998

Florida State University, Dodd Hall, 1912, National Registry of Historic Places (NRHP)
Restored windows of various types: double hung wooden, ornate steel casement, and leaded glass windows. Lead abatement and disposal complied with Wesson Environmental Engineering specifications.

Former SunBank Building, 1906
Restored main lobby. Repaired and restored coffer plastered ceiling. Matched original stain and paint. Extensive selective demolition.

Old Mandarin Post Office, 1890
Restored double hung wooden windows.
Owner: City of Mandarin, Mandarin, Florida.

Madison County Jail, 1846, National Registry of Historic Places (NRHP)
Restored double hung wooden windows. Florida Department of Transportation ISTEA Project.
Owner: City of Madison, Madison, Florida.

Former SunBank Building, 1906
Restored metal, double hung windows. Restored four story building exterior including repointed and repainted brick.

St. Leo Abby, circa 1930
Restored clearstory, steel storm window protecting Mueler stain glass.

Former SunBank Building, 1906
Restore 54 double hung wooden windows while conducting Apprenticeship Training.
Owner: LifeStream Behavioral Services, Leesburg, Florida.

State of Florida Historical Restoration Apprenticeship Program. Curriculum developed, approved, and piloted in Leesburg, Florida, for statewide apprenticeship programs. Funded by special appropriation through the State of Florida Legislature. Initial Contractor: St. Augustine Technical Center, funded by the State of Florida, Registered by Florida Department of Labor and Employment Security, Division of Jobs and Benefits, Bureau of Job Training, Apprenticeship Section.

Mote Morris House, 1892, National Registry of Historic Places (NRHP)
Restored total interior, lead abatement and removal.
Leesburg, Florida.

 

Sampling of Restoration Projects Completed Prior to 1997:
Prince Murat House, 1790, (NRHP)
Restored complete exterior (coquina stone and stucco) and made general repairs to windows, woodwork and electrical service. The original building was one story with measurements in Spanish, the second story was added under English occupation.
Owner: St. Augustine Museum Complex, St. Augustine, Florida.

Newberry Electric Light Plant, oldest electric building in Florida
General restoration. Repointed, repainted and repaired original building including doors and windows. Pressure grouted foundation with cement for retrofit and pulled building together with clamps to close cracks.
Owner: City of Newberry, Newberry, Florida.

Citrus County Courthouse, Inverness, Florida, 1913
Selective demolition. Restored windows, doors, stonework, and copper cupola.

Washington County Courthouse, Chipley, Florida, circa 1900, (NRHP)
Restored complete exterior including pointing brick and stone, reglazing, removal of tar, paint and stains, and painting.

Lyster Army Hospital, Ft. Rucker, Alabama
Renovated 33 patient rooms, ICU, OB Wards, Surgery and waiting rooms. Work performed with minimum disruption to hospital operations.

Sandy Bottom Road Raines House, Abbeville, Alabama, 1820’s two story, log house
Completely disassembled, including stone fireplaces. Moved 20 miles and completely reassembled with wood roof and replicated missing parts.

Cardenell-Bouderon Building, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, 1890, (NRHP)
Restored complete interior and exterior including removing façade, pressed metal ceiling, windows and mill work.

Macon Façade Program, Macon, Georgia, Antebellum Stores (NRHP)
Performed four (4) contracts for the City of Macon covering a broad range of restoration work including cornices and replication of missing features.

Concrete Swimming Pool and Recreation Complex Built by WPA, Tocca, Georgia, City of Tocca
Restored pool to function safely and efficiently. The restored pool remains in services (1999). The pool was out of service for two decades with tree growing through the concrete bottom.

Restoration Training Program, JTPA/PIC, State of Alabama, Dothan, Alabama
Used an old church at Landmarks Park and Old Juniour High for hands-on class. Over ninety percent positive placement of trained personnel.
